Vitamin E is often lacking in the performance horse or camel’s diet, particularly if on a high cereal diet. Supplementation is important for the hard working horse or camel as deficiencies have been linked with reduced stamina, tying-up, muscle degeneration and a compromised immune system.
Selenium is a trace element which works in conjunction with vitamin E to provide antioxidant support. It is also beneficial for skin and mucous membranes. Vitamin D, the ‘sunshine vitamin’, is essential for the absorption and utilisation of calcium and potassium, which are required

The camel has a limited capacity to store Vitamin B1 in its body. In  addition, the inclusion of barley in the diet can cause acidosis, reducing the levels of ‘good’ microflora in the hind gut (rumen) which synthesise B1 naturally.
